Environmental Protection
We affect the environment both directly and indirectly through our behaviors. That’s why we want to do everything in our power to show prospective clients that we are a green business that does its part to reduce environmental damage. Although we rely on resources like water, power, and building materials, we are aware of the possible environmental risks connected to our business activities. To reduce any negative consequences on the environment going forward, we must therefore put in endless effort. High environmental standards are what we have set for ourselves to achieve.
Environmental issues are an essential part of our HSSE management system. Our HSSE policy requires us to use energy and raw materials efficiently, avoid harming the environment, and increase staff awareness of environmental issues in order to minimize negative effects. We have long kept track of the quantity and frequency of product releases, the energy and water used, and the waste produced at our sites. Furthermore, in order to more effectively identify and evaluate our progress, we have established relevant key performance indicators (KPIs). In addition, the group’s carbon dioxide (CO2) footprint is calculated by our holding company PetroGas USA Tank Terminal to evaluate our contribution to climate change. In addition, we routinely assess the groundwater quality at our tank ports as a preventive step in accordance with our HSSE management. Our environmental professionals centrally examine the acquired data.
Our company uses both direct and indirect energy sources to power its buildings, sites, vehicles, and offices. Examples of direct energy use include fuel for our boilers, automobiles, pumps, and heating oil in addition to natural gas. Indirect energy, or electricity, is needed for a variety of purposes, including our tank terminal lighting, product pumps, and, last but not least, the computers in our offices around the world. As indirect energy sources, we also use imported steam and, to a lesser extent, district heating.
Climate Protection Initiatives
Being mindful of the environmental impact of our business operations, we strive to offer alternatives, improve energy efficiency, further optimize our resource management, and develop and promote environmental protection programs. There are dedicated environmental project teams at several of our locations that, among other things, develop and evaluate local waste, water, and energy reduction plans. A selection of the projects is given.
The globally applicable ISCC certification system covers all sustainable feedstocks, including renewable energy sources, biomass from forestry and agriculture, and bio-based and circular materials. With over 4,000 active certificates in more than 100 countries, ISCC is one of the largest certification networks in the world.
